Lady Chi I agree with what you say about how the medical profession treats young adults with the disease which is why I am arming my son, who is 15, with all of the information he needs to "handle" the doctors when I am not around. As children eve...

Posted Oct 5th 2009 3:30PM by Latifah Muhammad

TLC's raspy voiced singer Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins revealed that she previously suffered from a brain tumor for three years. The 39-year-old mother kept her medical condition under wraps and underwent a seven-hour surgery to remove the grapefruit-sized tumor in 2006. "People are floored when I say I have a brain tumor. I won't let you feel sorry for me," she said. "We'll make jokes, get through it, and the bad stuff will just be a memory."

Teen's Bone Marrow Transplant Cures Brother of Sickle Cell

At two weeks old, Travis Washington was diagnosed with sickle cell disease. Since then, he spent much of his childhood in and out of hospitals, suffering from excruciating pain. At age 11, Travis had a mild stroke that left him weak on one side of his body. He underwent months of physical, occupational and speech therapy and fully recovered.

He began receiving blood transfusions every month to prevent another stroke. But in 2006, Travis had a massive stroke that permanently damaged the right si… Continue

Hey Lady,

I'm ok. Just got out of the hospital on Friday. Been in there since the 6th. But I'm a little better now. I have a lot of challenges ahead. Found some other stuff so I have to take care of it. I can't go back to work for a while. I'm seeing my hematologist every week now and they found another tumor. Gonna find out on Thursday what the next step is. What's doin' with the plans? How is it going?

hey again, hope you're doing great. Well today my doctors pulled up my family history of diseases and stuff like that and we have a family history of Lupus,I got tested for it and I have the mild form of it. I kind of knew it was something else because like you said, the SCD trait isn't that active.

hey :) I haven't been on here in a while, say I have a question. I have the sickle cell trait(or so they say)and I have a lot lot of problems. Pains in my knees, and other parts of my body,I get sick sometimes for no reason what so ever, and my doctors can't figure out why. I have been to 5 different doctors and all of them say I don't have Sickle Cell, but I think I do because I know others with the trait and have no problems. I was wondering, do you know where I could go to see if I have the disease because my doctors are missing something.Oh and I have Iron Def. Anemia a lot to but they don't know what causes mine because I take iron therapy pills and I eat iron rich foods.
